Arielle Silverstein: Vigilante of Hate

Actually I think people love vigilantes, as long as they are taking vengeance on hated institutions such as banks, lawyers or landlords for example. – Arielle Silverstein aka Bozuri

Who are the are the “people” a bunch of cyber-terrorists? Vigilante is an interesting word. It entered English language sometime in the 19th century, borrowed from the Spanish word of the same spelling which meant watchman” in that language. The Spanish word itself can be traced back to the Latin vigilare, meaning to keep awake.”

These days the word tends to conjure up images of deranged gun-wielding maniacs intent on exact their own stand of ‘justice’ against those they deem deserving of their, often ugly and violent, judgments.

It should come as no surprise then that Arielle Silverstein praises vigilantes. Likely, she sees both herself and her obsessed other half, Tony Ortega, as ‘wakeful watchmen’ style vigilantes operating well outside of the jurisdiction of the law. The irony of this erroneous position is almost laughable.

Far from ‘the do-gooding’ crusaders, Arielle Silverstein and Tony Ortega are little more than criminals themselves. They will stop at nothing to punish those they see as breaking the “laws” they wish to impose on others. (Laws like religious intolerance, which for Tony Ortega and Arielle Silverstein who seem to approach repression of religious faith with the crazed passion of zealots.)

Strangely, in Arielle Silverstein’s post above she seems to be pushing the idea of some form of ‘vigilante vengeance’ against ‘hated institutions’. Once again it seems that she is open to attacks on those she deems to be the bad guy – “institutions” like banks, landlords and lawyers.

Leaving aside that “landlords and lawyers” are individuals and not institutions (Valium-inspired confusion again?), observe that she chose to include her own profession in the mix. Is she really suggesting that it’s ok to hate groups of people? It wouldn’t be the first time she’s done so. And it certainly won’t be the last.
