Backpage Smashes Glass Ceiling!

Reading through the litany of charges against all those who participated in the Backpage scam – from the kingpins at the top, to the hapless lackeys like Tony Ortega, to the rank and file pimps on the street – the vast majority of the accused have been men.

In the MeToo era this shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. But this week’s news of a new kind of pimp is making headlines. Now, a 27-year-old Philadelphia woman has become the first top big ‘female pimp’ to be convicted as a judge in Pennsylvania has ordered that ‘the Lady Pimp of Backpage’ will spend two decades in prison for sex trafficking two teenagers, according to federal authorities.

First Assistant United States Attorney Jennifer Arbittier Williams said Monday that Shyniquah Lightner, 27, of Philadelphia, has just been sentenced to 20 years in prison (in addition to another full 15 years of supervised release) for her role in a scheme to sex traffic children through Backpage.

In both 2016 and 2017, Lightner recruited two children, ages 14 and 15, to engage in commercial sex acts at a house in Philadelphia. She advertised the children on the website Backpage.com, and she collected money from the sex buyers who came to the residence for sexual encounters with the minors.

As First Assistant U.S. Attorney Williams said of the case: “Lightner’s crimes were devastating to her minor victims. Today’s sentence of twenty years’ incarceration reflects the seriousness of her crimes and the irrevocable damage she caused, all in pursuit of financial gain. We will continue to work collectively to investigate these destructive crimes against vulnerable children.”

Say what you will about the infamous child-sex trafficking site, at least Backpage has showed itself to be an equal-opportunity crime family. Here at the blog we are looking forward to hearing Tony Ortega’s ‘Backpage smashes glass ceiling’ spin on the whole affair.
