What Makes Tony Ortega Toxic

It’s been a wild week on the Internet by anyone’s standard. Over the weekend the FBI warned router users around the world to reset their passwords for fear of a potential Russian hack in progress. By Tuesday ABC had cancelled Roseanne Barr’s hit television show in the wake of bigoted comments she made via twitter only hours earlier.

Public response to this zero tolerance approach towards Internet bigotry has been overwhelmingly positive so far and has lead some to wonder if stamping out online hate-speech could be the next #MeToo movement.

This new wave of real-world repercussions for twitter bigotry must leave ‘career’ web surfers like Tony Ortega in a great deal of panic. His own legacy of religiously motivated hate-tweeting is nothing short of breathtaking in the scope of its arrogance and ignorance, if not abundance.

Could Ortega be the next to be exposed? Unlike Roseanne, Tony doesn’t have a show (let alone a job) he could be fired from, but publicly naming and shaming Ortega could be a start. A line has been drawn in the sand by a public sick and tired of hate-based bigotry and Tony Ortega is on the wrong side of that line.

Let’s not forget the type of toxic people Ortega supports, #AllegedRapist and #WifeBeater, and we all know who they are.
